O Deep Purple é uma banda de hard rock da Inglaterra, Reino Unido, surgida em 1968 e considerada uma das criadoras do heavy metal e do hard rock, embora o próprio conjunto rejeite qualquer rótulo. Contemporânea de grupos como Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath e Uriah Heep, a marca da banda sempre foi a mistura de guitarra e teclado, com riffs simples e fortes e solos vigorosos. Sua canção mais conhecida é Smoke on the Water, gravada em 1972.
Para quem não é exatamente um fã do Deep Purple parece complicado acompanhar as formações da banda. Vários dos mais talentosos músicos do rock passaram pelo grupo, e, por causa disso, cada formação tem elementos distintos em sua sonoridade. O Black Sabbath é uma banda de heavy metal formada no ano de 1968 em Birmingham, Inglaterra. A formação "histórica" é composta por Ozzy Osbourne (vocais), Tony Iommi (guitarra), Geezer Butler (baixo) e Bill Ward (bateria). Posteriormente, houve numerosas mudanças na banda, com Iommi sendo o único componente fixo. Embora às vezes, classificada como uma banda de hard rock, o Black Sabbath é considerado como um dos primeiros grupos de heavy metal da história, contribuíindo muito para o desenvolvimento deste gênero. Entre 1970 a 2000, foram vendidos mais de cem milhões de cópias de álbuns das banda, tornando o Black Sabbath uma das mais bem sucedidas bandas de Heavy Metal, ao lado do Judas Priest, Iron Maiden e Metallica.
