Rick Derringer

Rick Derringer é um dos "guitar-heros" mais obscuros dos 60s/70s. Foi "lead guitar" dos McCoys nos anos 60, quando estourou com o hit 'Hang On Sloopy' (canção que no Brasil teve o refrão vertido para "Pobre menina, não tem ninguém", é mole?). Entrou os anos 70 trabalhando com os irmãos Winter. Na carreira solo, em 1973, lançou um clássico da década, o discaço "All American Boy" (que tinha uma das capas mais ridículas da história do rock, o que prejudicou demais o disco), mas o disco encalhou (apesar do hit "Rock & Roll Hoochie Koo") e depois só voltou a gravar em 1975 (um disco muito irregular e com capa ainda mais ridícula do que o antecessor, chamado "Spring Fever"). Os que presenciaram os shows de Rick numa "boa noite", contudo podem testemunhar que o cara era o bicho, sabia tudo de guitarra, sem malabarismos, sem megalomanias, puro sangue, suor e nervos, em suma, Rock de e para gente grande. Luther Allison foi um guitarrista de blues americano nascido em Widener, Arkansas. Em 1952, com doze anos, mudou-se com a família para Chicago. Nesta época ganhou sua primeira guitarra e começou a se interessar pelo som de Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy Williamson e Robert Nighthawk.

Em 1957 ele largou os estudos e formou uma banda chamada The Rolling Stones. Insatisfeito com o nome, eles se tornaram The Four Jivers, atuando em todo o West Side de Chicago. Em pouco tempo Allison estava tocondo com o melhor do West Side, incluindo Magic Sam, Otis Rush e Freddie King . Este último, incentivou Luther a cantar. Quando King começou sua turnê, no início dos anos 60, Luther assumiu a banda.

Ele gravou suas duas primeiras músicas para uma coletânea da gravadora Delmark e, em 1969, gravou seu primeiro álbum, também pela Delmark. A partir daí, lançou vários álbuns até sua morte em 12 Agosto 1997.
