Argent

A curta biografia da banda, que segue, foi escrita por Steve Huey para o site allmusic e traduzida livremente do inglês.
Após a Zombies acabar, o tecladista e compositor Rod Argent formou sua própria banda em 1969, que incorporou mais música clássica, jazz e influências da arte roqueira para a formação do som da Argent. Os outros membros do grupo eram o guitarrista e compositor Russ Ballard, o baixista Jim Rodford e o baterista Bob Henrit. Os primeiros dois discos da banda, “Argent” e “Ring Of Hands”, receberam uma boa acolhida da crítica, mas o sucesso veio mesmo no álbum de 1972, “All Together Now”, que continha o estrondoso Top Five “Hold Your Head Up”; “In Deep” produziu um hit menor, “God Gave Rock ‘N’ Roll To You”, que foi regravado pela banda Kiss em 1992. Em 1974, Ballard tinha desenvolvido seu talento de compositor de maneira suficiente para tentar uma carreira solo (a Three Dog Night teve um único Top Ten em 1971 com a canção “Liar”, de Ballard), tendo sido substituído pelos guitarristas John Verity e John Grimaldi. Sem Ballard, o grupo perdeu seu rumo e tendeu a tocar jams longas e solos improvisados a níveis excessivos. Lynyrd Skynyrd é uma banda de southern rock dos EUA com uma carreira marcada por atitude, originalidade, grandes sucessos e infelizmente, muitos acidentes, o Lynyrd Skynyrd, uma das mais importantes e influentes bandas da década de 70, foi formado em Jacksonville, Flórida quando Ronnie VanZant , Robert Burns, Gary Rossington e Allen Larkin Collins Jr resolveram tocar uma mistura de country, blues e hard rock.

O baixista Leon Wilkeson e o tecladista Billy Powell, ex-roadie, passaram a integrar o grupo em 1972, pouco antes do lançamento do primeiro álbum: "Pronounced' lêh-nérd 'skin-'nérd". O disco foi muito bem sucedido, tendo os hits "Free Bird" e "Gimme Three Steps" como principais destaques. Foram convidados para abrirem a turnê do The Who nos Estados Unidos, ficando famosos em todo o país.

O segundo trabalho, "Second Helping", saiu logo em 1974 e , "Sweet Home Alabama", o carro-chefe, levou-os à conquista do disco de ouro.

Em 1976 gravaram o duplo ao vivo "One More From The Road", um dos maiores sucessos comerciais de toda a carreira, e "Free Bird", em versão ao vivo, volta a estourar nas rádios.

No dia 21 de Outubro do mesmo ano, 26 pessoas, incluindo os músicos, roadies e tripulação, sofreram um acidente aéreo em uma viagem no avião particular da banda. Nele morreram Ronnie Van Zant, Allen Collins, Steve Gaines e Leon Wilkeson.

O acidente expôs o Lynyrd Skynyrd na mídia de uma maneira nunca antes vista, o que contribuiu para que os álbuns já lançados vendessem alguns milhares a mais de cópias. A gravadora MCA solta várias coletâneas no mercado e somente três anos depois, os sobreviventes do desastre aéreo formam um outro grupo, o Rossington-Collins Band, que não obteve grande repercussão.

Allen Collins decide então seguir em carreira solo, interrompida em 1986, após um grave acidente automobilístico que o deixou paralítico, vindo a morrer em 1990 de pneumonia.

Em 1991, se reúnem novamente e gravam o inédito "Lynyrd Skynyrd 1991", com Johnnie Van Zant, irmão de Ronnie, nos vocais e com o trio de guitarras Ed King, Rossington e Randall Hall (ex-Allen Collins Band).

No dia 14 de março de 2006, o Lynyrd Skynyrd entra para o Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
